Frequently Asked Questions

what are your hours?

I offer sessions Monday through Thursday during the daytime and evening. Please contact me directly for specific information about current times available.

how long are sessions?

Intakes, or initial sessions, and standard individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes.

Do you accept insurance

I am an out-of-network provider, but I offer courtesy billing so patients may maximize their out-of-network benefits. This means full session fees are paid upfront and then you will be provided with a receipt, known as a superbill, that you can submit to your insurance company for direct reimbursement.

How do i know if i have out of network benefits

For an in-depth understanding of your benefits, I suggest contacting your insurance company. Here are some recommended questions:

  • How much does my plan reimburse for out-of-network psychotherapy services? (The procedure or CPT codes used as 90791 for a a first session/intake and 90834 for individual therapy sessions)
  • Do I need to reach an out-of-network deductible first? If so, how much is my deductible?
  • Do I need a referral to psychotherapy from a physician in order to get reimbursed?
  • How do I submit claims for reimbursement?

what is your cancellation policy?

I require 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule sessions, otherwise you will be charged the session fee.

How long does therapy take?

The ideal length of therapy is different for everyone. Some people find a brief therapy experience beneficial and others find longer-term therapeutic work most helpful. Here's some general information you may find useful:

Therapy can be short or longer-term, ranging from a few sessions to, in some cases, a lifetime. Short-term therapy (often 10-20 sessions) is typically more goal-oriented, focusing on a specific challenge whereas longer-term therapy is open-ended and less structured, allowing time for new revelations, discovering insights, and changing long-standing patterns or problems.

While longer-term therapy helps get to the root of the problem, change long-established patterns, and relieve more pervasive distress, there are several reasons one might consider short-term therapy. Short-term therapy can be useful when a specific thing has pushed you to seek therapy; short-term therapy is targeted and focused. If you're new to therapy, short-term therapy can provide the opportunity to try out therapy without pressure. You can learn what therapy is like an make an informed decision about pursuing longer-term therapy, if you'd like. Short-term therapy is also very active. As it often focuses on a specific problem or goal, sessions may include learning new coping strategies, skills, or techniques to practice applying outside of sessions.

It can be helpful to speak with a professional if you are unsure what length of treatment may be beneficial. In my initial sessions with client, we discuss goals for our work and collaboratively develop a treatment plan.

How does online therapy work?

Don't let a busy schedule hold you back from therapy - access care virtually provides a convenient and effective treatment option. Wherever you are in California, therapy can come to you.

First, reach out to me via phone or email, so we can have a free 15-minute consultation to see if I am a good fit for your goals and needs. If you decide that I'm the therapist for you, I'll send you instructions to access my secure, easy to use online video platform - all you need is a reliable internet connection and private space. It's as easy as that!

Often people ask if online therapy really works. Online therapy is conducted in a very similar way to in-person therapy. There are no changes to treatment other than you will be looking at someone on a screen rather than from across the room. I am very experienced in online therapy and make every effort to ensure sessions are accessible.

What are your fees?

I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to help you decide if we might be a good fit.

Ongoing, 50-minute therapy sessions are $450.

Rates are comparable with other doctoral level practitioners with advanced training and domain expertise in California. Payment is due at the time of the session.

While I do not current accept insurance, if your health insurance plan includes out-of-network benefits, I can provide documentation (called a superbill) that you can submit for reimbursement.

Standard Notice: "Right to receive a good faith estimate of expected charges" under the No Surprises Act. You have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" explaining how much your medical care will cost. For more information visit CMS.gov.
